Eleven Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival into Lahore where Indus Heritage Club staff will receive you at the Allama Iqbal International Airport or the Wagah border. You will be dropped off at the Lahore Pearl Continental Hotel (PC). A visit to the currency exchange will take place before lunch. After lunch, you will be requested to attend a trip orientation session facilitated by the tour manager at the PC Hotel. The tour will commence with a sightseeing visit of Lahore on a double decker bus. After watching a Kathak performance, you will have dinner overlooking Lahore’s iconic Badshahi Mosque

Day 2

Breakfast and morning departure to explore Sikh heritage in Lahore Fort, which for centuries served as the political center of Punjab. You will be guided through the Sikh connection of locations inside the fort including the Badshahi mosque, Hazur Bagh, Alamgiri Gate, Diwan-e-Aam, Kharak Singh’s quarters, Khillat Gah, Princess Bamba Collection, Sikh Armoury, Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s Athdara, Moti Masjid, and the Summan Burj. You will then proceed to the Gurdwara Dera Sahib, which marks the location of the martyrdom of the fifth Guru. Following Langar at Dera Sahib, you will visit the Roshnayi Gate and Samadhi of Maharaja Ranjit Singh

Following two hours of rest at the hotel, in the evening you will be treated to a heritage retreat and dinner on the outskirts of Lahore. You will have the opportunity to experience classical Punjabi dance, poetry, music and cuisine.

Day 3

Arrival into Lahore where Indus Heritage Club staff will receive you at the

Breakfast and morning departure to the Gurdwara Singh Singhnian which marks the location of massacres committed by Mir Mannu on Sikhs in the mid eighteenth century. You will then be guided on a tour of the walled city of Lahore, explaining the significance of Delhi gate and its environs in Sikh history. After visiting the scenic Wazir Khan mosque (named after Shah Jehan’s physician), you will visit Guru Ramdas’s birthplace where you will also witness Bhai Mardana’s descendants perform Kirtan. Following Langar at the Gurdwara, you will visit the Fakirkhana Museum where you will be treated to priceless artifacts as well as personal stories from Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s court. You will then proceed to the Haveli of Nauihal Singh, a rare surviving example of Sikh art and architecture.

Following an hour’s rest at the hotel, you will be treated to a Punjabi theatre performance.

Day 4

Breakfast and check out from the Lahore PC Hotel with departure to Nankana Sahib. A group of Punjabi folk singers will keep you entertained on the bus journey through rural West Punjab towards Nankana Sahib. The first stop will be at Gurdwara Sacha Sauda where Guru Nanak laid the foundations of the Langar tradition in Sikhism. Following Langar at the Gurdwara, you will proceed towards the town of Nankana Sahib. Visiting several Gurdwaras associated with early events from Guru Nanak’s life in the afternoon. The day will conclude with your visit to Gurdwara Janam Asthan, the main Gurdwara in Nankana Sahib. You will spend the night on the Gurdwara premises.

Day 5

Breakfast Langar and departure for Panja Sahib. On the journey you will be treated to a Punjabi short story telling performance in the heart of the country side. Following lunch at Bhera, you will be shown the Katasraj Mandirs. This ancient Mandir complex is one of the sites most sacred to Hinduism in Pakistan. The day will conclude with your visit to Gurdwara Panja Sahib where you will spend the night.

Day 6

Breakfast Langar at Panja Sahib and visit of Hasan Abdal Railway Station where Sikh’s sacrificed their lives for the sanctity of langar during the colonial era. Departure to Taxila Museum where you will see Gandharan Buddhist art and sculptures. This will be followed by outdoor lunch overlooking the Dharmarajika Stupa built by Emperor Asoka. You will see an original section of the Grand Trunk road on the Margalla Pass before departing for Rawalpindi in the afternoon where you will check into the Rawalpindi PC Hotel.

Following a two hour rest you will head to Islamabad for talk on cultural heritage followed by Ghazal night and dinner.

Day 7

Breakfast and late departure for Shah Allah Ditta Village on the outskirts of Islamabad where you will be treated to a performance on the folk beats and dances of North-West Punjab. Following lunch at Shah Allah Ditta Village, you will visit the Lok Virsa Heritage Museum. Those wishing to do shopping will dropped at the Centaurus shopping mall after this, and those desiring rest will be driven straight to the hotel.

Day 8

Breakfast and early morning departure for Gujranwala. The first stop will be at Gurdwara Choa Sahib, associated with Guru Nanak’s travels to the region, located outside the boundary wall of scenic Rohtas Fort. You will have the opportunity to make a section of the journey to Jhelum in a local bus decorated in Pakistan’s renowned “truck art” style. Lunch will be served at Chillianwala, where a decisive battle took place during the Second Anglo Sikh War. This will be followed by a visit to the Gurdwara Bhai Banno at Mangat, in which an early copy of the Guru Granth Sahib was stored. The last stop for the day will be the city of Gujranwala, where you will arrive by evening.

Day 9

Breakfast and visit of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s birthplace in Gujranwala. Visiting the historic town of Eminabad (formerly known as Saidpur) on the outskirts of Gujranwala. Gurdwara Rori Sahib in Eminabad marks the site where Guru Nanak was apprehended by Mughal forces at the time of Babur’s invasion. Departure for Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, and arrival and check-in to Lahore PC Hotel by evening.

Day 10

Those wishing to rest or spend the day shopping can stay in Lahore. The rest of the group will depart for Pakpattan early in the morning, to visit the shrine of Baba Farid and experience Qawali there. On the journey back to Lahore, you will visit the Udasi Durbar of Bhumman Shah which is an excellent example of Punjabi art and architecture. Prior to arrival in Lahore you will also stop at the shrine of Bulleh Shah in Kasur, where you will have the opportunity to hear Bulleh Shah’s poetry as recited by folk singers at the shrine. Arrival in Lahore by evening.

Day 11

The day will start with a talk by various Pakistani experts on Sikh heritage at the Lahore PC Hotel. After this you will be given time for shopping in Lahore’s liberty market. In the afternoon, you will visit the shrine of Mian Mir who was a Muslim friend of Guru Arjun Dev. This will be followed by dinner at a heritage site in Lahore’s walled city.
